Canine Leishmania Ab

ubio quickVET Canine Leishmania Antibody Rapid Test Kit is a qualitative immunochromatographic assay for the detection of Leishmania infantum antibodies in whole blood, serum or plasma within just 5-10 minutes.

Leishmania infantum, a parasitic protozoan that causes Leishmaniasis, infects macrophages in skin and viscera. It is passed from dog to dog by sand flies and has a high mortality rate in untreated dogs. The flies pass the Leishmania organism to the dog when they bite. The disease is chronic and slow-developing, with an incubation period that lasts from 3 months to several years.
The clinical signs of the disease are variable and can mimic other infections. Typical clinical features of the disease are regular or intermittent fever, anemia, splenomegaly, lethargy, weight loss and decreased appetite and exercise tolerance. Diarrhoea, vomiting, melena, glomerulonephritis, liver failure, epistaxis, polyuria-polydipsia,lameness, ascites, and chronic colitis are occasionally seen. Asymptomatic infections may also occur.
Leishmaniasis is readily transmissible to humans through bites of sand flies that carry the disease causing organism.

Canine Leishmaniasis test card

ubio quickVET Canine Leishmania Antibody Rapid test is a lateral flow assay designed so that even a technician with limited expertise can perform the test easily. The veterinarian or the technician draws blood from the animal using a syringe, and then, 3 drops of blood is added to the sample hole on the test card using a dropper. After waiting for complete absorption, 1 drop of the diluent(supplied with the assay) is also added to the sample hole. Results can be read in just 5-10 minutes - the control line, marked C, should always appear if the test procedure is performed properly and the test reagents are working. A red test line, marked T, will be visible if enough Canine Leishmania antibody is present in the sample.
