Rabies is a dangerous, untreatable disease that can affect humans and most animals. Usually, the disease is transmitted through bites from rabid animals and contact with broken skin. Then, the virus spreads by infected saliva and attacks the central nervous cord and brain. The most common sign of rabies is an unexplained change in behavior. ubio quickVET Rabies Antigen Rapid test is a lateral flow assay designed so that even a technician with limited expertise can perform the test. The veterinarian or the technician uses the swab supplied along with the kit to carefully draw saliva from the animal. Brain homegenates may be drawn if the animal is dead. The swab is dipped in the diluent supplied with the assay and it is used to agitate the diluent so that enough sample is extracted. The diluent is allowed to settle, and 3 drops are poured into the sample hole on the test card using the supplied dropper. Results can be read in just 5-10 minutes - the control line, marked C, should be always appear if the test procedure is performed properly and the test reagents are working. A red test line, marked T, will be visible if enough Rabies antigen is present in the sample.

ubio quickVET Rabies Antigen assay is available in 10-test, 5-test and single-test packs. The packs contain swabs, droppers, sample collection tube and assay diluent required to perform the test. One test card can be used for screening one animal, and it is disposed after use.
