CDIO, Govt. of Kerala, validates ubio quickVET FMD NSP rapid screening test

Chief Disease Investigation Officer, Government of Kerala, has validated the quickVET FMD NSP Antibody rapid screening tests introduced by ubio Biotechnology Systems Pvt Ltd. The product is used to detect Foot-and-Mouth disease infection in cows and buffaloes in just 10 minutes, without any additional instrumentation. By detecting a non-structural protein, the test is able to correctly identify infection even in vaccinated animals. In the tests conducted at the office of the CDIO using serum samples from infected areas, the kit was found to provide excellent performance, making it an ideal tool for fast, on-field screening for FMD.

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a severe, highly contagious viral disease of livestock with significant economic impact. The disease causes severe production losses and while the majority of affected animals recover, the disease often leaves them weakened and debilitated, with severe reduction in milk production. Compulsory, repeated vaccination of all animals, tight control over animal movement across boundaries and constant surveillance are required to avoid FMD outbreaks.
